This is for the girl two rows behind me cos everyone wanted a photo of her on her first flight. In fact, it's her first time out of the country
Went straight for dinner cos of the flight delay but waited super long for it! This is Fish Amok, a local dish that tasted kinda like curry without the spiciness
Had a lecture after that and back to room to rest!
Then went to "Tomb Raider" temple. Guess why it's called so! And this is an epic photo of random passer by looking like the sudden clarity meme. Haha. And spot the hanging caterpillar that everyone's looking at! Also, featuring Dr Hastings with his cowboy hat
Quite interesting to know how they are essentially jigsaw puzzles made of stones and fitted piece by piece, stacked on top of one another to form this largest monument in the world. Exhilarating!
Woke up at 4 the next morning and eventually reached our destination at about 6plus:
Yup, that's the 4WD that took us to the Floricab Grassland, and that's us sitting on nature having our breakfast
This photo of Painted Stock is taken the next day but we basically went around hunting for sights of birds under the hot sun and was rewarded with a large flock of these (the next day's flock was even larger though; upwards of 2000 estimated)
Classic climate change photos. Anyways, all these places that we stepped on along the banks of Tonle Sap in the dry season are gonna be flooded by 3-5 metre high water during wet season, so these are technically the water bed!
Next day was another nature area Prek Toal. Supposed to be at another place but we kinda saw what we can see there the previous day so yup, new site!
Continued bird watching, this time on Tonle Sap itself. This area of flood land is about 4 times the size of Singapore during the dry season, and it swells about 4-5 times its size during the wet season as the Mekong back flows into it!
Did some activities including riding a sampan. Ahmad and I unfortunately got one with a hole in the bow. So while others were enjoying, we took turns to scope water out of our boat. Good thing is, we alighted from it dry! Lol
Came back and it's dinner time! Went to somewhere near the pub street at a Khmer kitchen before heading to an ice cream shop for ice cream. It also rained! Apparently it's the first time since March!!! No wonder so hot, code black everyday.
The next day was ACCB which is an animal rescue centre that works kinda like a zoo to raise awareness. Had a Sarus crane follow us around the whole time. To think we tried so hard to look for it through the binoculars -.- didn't have the appetite the whole day for breakfast and lunch so was too busy feeling weak to take any photos. Anyway, national museum then was museum to cap off the day. The war veteran that spoke to us really made everything so much more realistic by adding a human face to the devastation caused by the civil war. I must say it was pleasantly shocking...
Came back and was given a final lecture by Mr Yous on the life of Cambodians where he very kindly shared some of his personal life that included lots of bitterness (such as watching his grandma got tortured and killed in front of his eyes) but some sweetness as well (when he talked about his son and daughter, and married life). Amazing fellow.
Also, learnt that in Cambodia, as oppose to Chinese custom, guys marry into the girl's family! And they have an Environment Day here where people get a day off to clean up the streets (though not really executed).
I must, at this end, credit Mr Yous and Mr Mardy (guide for nature reserves) cos they've both been really selfless in sharing things with us and have done a really good job guiding us...
Last morning and off we go to the airport for KL!
