Tongariro 17/6/16

Tongariro crossing was rather disappointing cos the cloud covers were pretty dense. Still manage to get some nice photos though!

Was too lazy to finish the 3hours walk that we started off

Would do anything for a nice photo haha

Until we eventually reach somewhere close enough!

And also took a piece of volcanic rock with me. Just a small one... So tracked for about 3 hours (instead of the intended 6-7hours); determination was diminished with hunger. So we went back to our campervan and cooked simple food for lunch. After that was Lake Taupo!

Endless. By this time it was just another lake to us...

Largest lake in New Zealand; and we would later find out that it is actually a crater lake of the volcanic area that erupted thousands of years ago. Didn't really find any nice site so we moved off pretty soon.

Almost forgot about two nice attractions for rushing. Huka fall was a pleasant surprise, with its azure colour; it's actually retreating through the years cos of erosion. Really like how the many things we've learnt in geography are coming to life here. Also, met Hanni and Zongrui's acquaintance, Gen, who is a fellow recent NUS graduate as well.

Left for Crater of the Moon which was just opposite; reached just before their last admittance at 4pm for the one hour walk before their gate closes at 5pm. Geothermal vents! Another piece of textbook appearing live in front of us.

War zone. Took many shots but photo doesn't do it justice anyway.

The pungent (rotten egg) sulphur smell hasn't been experienced ever since I stopped chemistry education in secondary school, unpleasant but bearable.

And then finally, we took a 50-minutes drive to our next destination: Rotorua.
